Simple Truths About A Transformed Heart

Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.
–Proverbs 4:23

What is it that God desires for you and for me? God’s number one desire for our lives is not that we fill our heads with all kinds of Biblical knowledge. No, God’s desire for us is to become like Jesus Christ in every part of our lives.

The good news of the kingdom of God is that you do not have to wait until you die to experience the benefits of heaven. Remember, Jesus taught us through the parables that the kingdom of God is working in the hearts of His followers right now. The Bible says when you become a Christian, you can tap into the supernatural power that was a part of Jesus’s life. You can experience the same victory over temptation. You can experience the same peace no matter what is happening around you. You can experience the same satisfaction with your financial condition. That is what spiritual transformation is all about. This week, as we get close to wrapping up 2022, I want to share three simple truths about a transformed heart.

First of all, spiritual transformation is essential, not optional. The Bible says each of us has a spiritual heart, and every important decision in life comes from the heart. That is why Proverbs 4:23 says, “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.”

Every year, I have a heart exam. And maybe a month or so before that exam, I might start to exercise a little bit more or say no to some desserts. Why? Because I know that day of reckoning is coming, and I want to be sure my heart is in good condition. The truth is, all of us have a day of judgment coming when our hearts are going to be examined by God. In 2 Corinthians 5:10, Paul said, “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” You and I are going to have our hearts examined on that day, and the results are going to affect us for all eternity.

But we do not have to wait until we die to have our hearts examined. Do you realize God is examining your heart right now? Hebrews 4:13 says, “There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” Your heart is open before God, and right now He is evaluating the condition of your heart. That is why spiritual transformation is essential, not optional.
