Can you give a brief synopsis of the Book of Revelation?

Jesus Himself gave a good synopsis in Revelation 1:19. He appeared to John on the Isle of Patmos and said, basically, “Get a pen and a piece of papyrus and write down, first of all, the things which you have seen.” That’s what chapter 1 is about: John saw the glorified Christ. Then Jesus said, “Second, I want you to write down the things that are.” That’s the conditions of the seven churches in Revelation 2–3. Finally, Jesus said, “Write down the things which will come.” Those are the events in Revelation 4–22. That’s a three-fold summary of the book of Revelation.
