On Easter Sunday, Christians all over the world celebrate the power of the cross. Two thousand years ago, when Jesus died on the cross, He took the punishment from God that you and I deserve for all eternity. And just as Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, someday you and I are going to be raised from the dead as well. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies” (John 11:25). Now, that’s something worth celebrating!
But sometimes we’re so eager to talk about the resurrection that we race right past the events of Jesus’s final week. The Gospels describe many significant things Jesus said and did in the days leading up to His death and resurrection. And we have a lot to learn from those events about the power and purpose of the cross.
As we prepare our hearts for Easter Sunday, I encourage you to use this seven-day devotional I’ve titled The Power of the Cross, to reflect on the events that took place during the last week of Jesus’s ministry on earth. As you study the words and actions of Jesus during Passion Week, I pray that you will realize and experience the power of the cross in your own life as well!
