Red Sea Moments Remind Us Of God’s Power

Who is like You among the gods, O Lord?
–Exodus 15:11

The parting of the Red Sea was such an important event that Moses composed a song about it. Take a look at a few lines of this famous song of deliverance in Exodus 15:

I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted;
The horse and its rider He has hurled into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will extol Him.
The Lord is a warrior;
The Lord is His name.
Pharaoh’s chariots and his army He has cast into the sea;
And the choicest of his officers are drowned in the Red Sea. . . .
Your right hand, O Lord, is majestic in power,
Your right hand, O Lord, shatters the enemy.
And in the greatness of Your excellence
You overthrow those who rise up against You. . . .
Who is like You among the gods, O Lord?
Who is like You, majestic in holiness,
Awesome in praises, working wonders?
You stretched out Your right hand,
The earth swallowed them.
In Your lovingkindness You have led the people whom You have redeemed;
In Your strength You have guided them to Your holy habitation. (15:1-4, 6-7, 11-13)

The book of Revelation says that we are going to sing this song in Heaven before the last series of Tribulation judgments on earth that precede the Second Coming of Christ. In Revelation 15:2-3, the Apostle John recorded, “I saw . . . those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of God. And they sang the song of Moses, the bond-servant of God, and the song of the Lamb.”

Every time the Israelites sang this song, they remembered their Red Sea moment. They recalled the situation when they were faced with the choice to walk in obedience to God, who had already revealed His power over all the forces of Egypt, or to refuse to obey God and face certain death. And the God who delivered Israel through the Red Sea is the same God who will deliver you and me through our own Red Sea moments.
