Appreciate the Importance of Now

This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
—-Psalm 118:24

The final principle for knowing when it is time to begin your second act is this: appreciate the importance of now.

David Jeremiah wrote about a scholar who surveyed the most significant words in the Bible, such as the saddest word, the happiest word, and so on. Do you know what the most dangerous word in the Bible is? “Tomorrow.” Tomorrow, he concluded, is a thief that robs dreamers of their dreams and the gifted of great accomplishments.

It is ironic that we humans, who the Bible says are nothing more than vapors that appear in this world for a little while and then vanish (James 4:14), treat time as if it is limitless. Yet God, who is from everlasting to everlasting, says that time is not limitless; it is priceless. God says the opportune time to begin something is today.

Has some significant weather vane turned in your life? Have you sensed that God is ready for you to begin your second act now? If so, stop making excuses. Stop postponing. Stop waiting until the mortgage is paid off, the kids are gone, or your hurts have been healed.

God has not given us any guarantee of tomorrow–not on earth anyway. And the past is gone forever. The only thing you have is today.

Why would you want to be filled with regret 20 years from now? Why not go ahead and take that first step you know that God is leading you to take?

The lights are dimming, the orchestra is tuning, and the Divine Director is giving you the cue. The time to begin your second act is now.
