How To Take A Spiritual Bath

I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word.
–Psalm 119:15-16

This week, I want to start by asking you a few questions:

1. Do you believe the Bible is the inerrant, inspired, powerful, authoritative Word of God?
2. How much time did you spend last week reading the Word of God? I am not talking about devotionals or books about the Bible but the actual Word of God.’
3. If you were sitting with somebody who wanted to know how to be a Christian, and you had no pamphlet or tract, could you lead them to faith in Jesus Christ using God’s Word alone?
4. Imagine you were in a prison cell, and you had no access to a Bible. How much of God’s Word could you recall by memory?
5. Imagine a friend or coworker asked for advice on how to heal a broken marriage, how to deal with a rebellious child, how to resist temptation, how to break an addiction, or how to have peace when their world is falling apart. Would you know where to turn in Scripture to give them God’s answers to those questions?

Now, my reason for asking you these questions is not to put on you a load of guilt. I am asking you these questions to show you one reason you and I are not experiencing more of God’s power in our lives.

For the last several weeks, we have been talking about how to release the power of the Holy Spirit in your life. Remember, every Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God, but not every Christian is empowered by the Holy Spirit of God. Think of the Holy Spirit like a spiritual generator. If you are a Christian, that generator is inside you. But to experience His power, there are some things you have to do. And there are four conduits through which the Holy Spirit’s power flows into your everyday life.

This week, we are going to look at the first conduit or channel through which God pours His Spirit’s power into your life, and that is the Word of God. The Spirit of God uses the Word of God to unleash the power of God to transform us into the image of God.
